impact on global health About the role: The Jain Lab
(https://ishajainlab.com/) at the Gladstone Institutes and
University of California, San Francisco is looking for a Research
Associate. The scientific goal is to study oxygen and vitamin
metabolism. This position will require a combination of wet lab
molecular biology/biochemistry experiments, as well as animal work.
Technicians will work closely with senior lab members and the
principal investigator, potentially resulting in first-author
publications and conference presentations. Gladstone offers

adherence to ethical and safety standards. What you will do:
Oversee all aspects of animal care, including designing breeding
schemes, maintaining mouse colonies, and managing genetic crosses.
Responsibilities also include genotyping, tagging, and keeping
detailed records of cages, body weights, survival, and activity.
Perform a variety of experimental techniques, including cloning,
Western blots, protein biochemistry, tissue culture, and advanced
microscopy. Conduct essential animal work, such as monitoring
health metrics (weight, temperature), performing behavioral
studies, administering blood draws, and executing basic
dissections. Execute a wide range of tasks, including cell
passaging, developing growth curves, transfections, infections, and
flow cytometry. Perform specialized biochemical tasks, such as mass
spectrometry and enzyme activity assays. Execute basic quantitative
tasks, including preparing dilutions, molarity calculations,
manipulating Excel files, and managing databases. Manage general
lab maintenance, including inventory control, rigorous note-taking,
and maintaining and developing laboratory protocols. What you will
need: Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in a related scientific field, such
as biology or chemistry preferred. 2 years of hands-on experience
working with animals (either post-college or during undergraduate
training). 2 years of molecular biology experience (either
post-college or during undergraduate training). Exceptional
organizational skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the
ability to quickly learn new software applications. A strong
willingness to learn and implement new scientific methodologies.
Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate occasional weekend duties,
such as checking on research animals. Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in independently managing projects through
to completion. Experience utilizing genomics tools. One to two
years of experience in statistics or computer science. Salary
