The W80-4 Life Extension Program is extending the life of the legacy W80-1 warhead, which involves significant component and systems level work to ensure enhanced safety and security of our nation's strategic nuclear stockpile. If joining a dynamic, hard-working, systems engineering team with outstanding work life balance and an un-beatable mission for global peace excites you, this role could be a phenomenal match!Electrical engineers in the W80-4 systems engineering departments may contribute in the following ways:Participate in surety trade studies and perform test data analysesProvide technical consultations on critical design elements particularly on components that have a surety functionAssist with system-level design architecture and analysis that combines component parts and subsystems into a complete functional systemParticipate in test planning to verify requirements and qualify hardwareCollaborate on maturation of requirements for specific areas or componentsParticipate in integration activities with other systems engineers and product realization teamsPrepare for presentations at technical design reviewsRepresent Sandia on multi-organizational project teams, as well as with external DoD partnersDue to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 100% of the time.Qualifications We RequireBachelor's degree plus 7 years relevant experience, or Master s degree plus 3 years relevant experience, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experienceAcademic or job experiences in at least one of the following: circuit design or analysis, signal processing, modeling/simulation, or qualificationAbility to travel up to 25%Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearanceQualifications We DesireExperience with safety, nuclear safety, and/or use control preferably in a nuclear weapon applicationActive DoE Q or DoD TS clearanceAcademic or job experience with analog board designFamiliarity with engineering tools and languages such as PSpice, Cadence/OrCAD, DxDesigner, MATLAB, Simulink, C/C++ and PythonOutstanding verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compellingAbility to team well with others and listen to different perspectivesAbout Our TeamThe W80-4 System Integration Departments are part of the Sandia/California Weapon Systems Engineering Center. The Weapon Systems Engineering Center is responsible for assuring the safety, reliability and security of U.S. nuclear weapons enabling the defense of our nation through our nuclear strategic deterrent. The W80-4 System Integration Departments are comprised of a group of dedicated and motivated engineers with advanced technical degrees, primarily in mechanical and electrical engineering. A major effort for this organization is the engineering design and development in support of a Life Extension Program for a nuclear warhead (W80-4). The W80-4 warhead will be deployed on the future U.S. Air Force Long Range Standoff (LRSO) cruise missile that will replace the existing Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM)/W80 Warhead weapon system in our nation's nuclear deterrent stockpile.
