The Design Associate is in a position of expanding responsibility for assigned project designs that are industrial in nature, focused on the Food and Beverage and Consumer Products arenas. Role work would include designing power, lighting & low voltage systems for large scale facilities, interaction & coordination with complex process & material handling systems. Working knowledge of codes and standards including but not limited to: NFPA 70, 72, 101, 110, 780; UL 96A; ASHRAE 90.1; and Building Codes is desirable. Experience working with Revit and AutoCAD are also highly preferred. Qualified candidates must have a degree in Electrical Engineering to be considered. Job Responsibilities:

  • Conceptual Design:
    • Establish a discipline basis of design for the design manager to review.
    • Detailed Design:
      • Analysis Ability
        • Designing for safety incorporated into drawings.
        • Performs dimensional, interference and basic design checks on the layouts and sketches of Licensed Professional and, as requested, on interdisciplinary drawing sets.
        • Performs analysis or calculations as assigned.
        • Responsible for design compliance with owner criteria.
        • Detailing:
          • Applies discipline design and detailing fundamentals in developing designs and specifications under the supervision of and subject to final approval by the Licensed Professional.--
          • Assists Licensed Professional with plotting/producing/assembly of drawing packages and writing specifications.--
          • Code compliance review with a design professional.--
          • Maintains AE checklists for a design manager to review.--
          • Participates in coordination review sessions.--
          • Maintains orderly work files and prepares clear, well-written memos/correspondence. When assigned, prepares presentation materials.--
          • Coordinates and checks work carefully to minimize all deficiencies, errors, and omissions.--
          • Uses Haskell standards and procedures.--
          • Construction Documents:
            • Produces well-organized, finished design documents of good appearance, accuracy, clarity, and correctness from layouts, sketches or written instructions.--
            • Construction Support:
              • Subject to final approval of Licensed Professional,--checks shop drawings and submittal data for conformance with contract documents.
              • Assists Licensed Professional in-field inspections, development of solutions to field problems, preparation of field orders, addenda and record drawings.
              • Shop drawings returned on schedule.
              • Responds to field/construction questions as directed by the discipline leader.
              • Creates inspection reports and punch lists.
              • Planning, Scheduling, and Profitability:
                • Creates a work plan for assigned tasks. Monitors and projects personal workload status, advising supervisor of difficulties in accomplishing schedules.
                • Meets scheduled key dates.
                • Discusses progress regularly with Licensed Professional of Record.
                • Advises the design manager of changes.
                • Design to budget man-hours.
                • Project Management:
                  • Adheres to project strategy.
                  • Documents meetings and telephone conversations in order to communicate to discipline leader. Level II Additional Job Responsibilities:
                    • Researches, documents, and is responsible for discipline design compliance with all applicable codes, ordinances, standards, and regulations.--
                    • Coordinates work with other disciplines. Performs interdisciplinary coordination checks to minimize deficiencies, errors, and omissions in drawings and specifications.--
                    • Reviews applicable shop drawings and submittal data for compliance with construction documents.-- Education/Experience:
                      • Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering
                      • Typical minimum experience for Design Associate I: 0-3 years' experience.
                      • Typical minimum Design Associate II: 2-5 years' experience. Specific Knowledge, Skills, License, Certifications Etc..:
                        • Discipline production software at a beginner level (i.e. Sketch-Up).
                        • Intermediate skill with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
