North Wind Services, is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customer's mission. Available employment opportunities may range from administrative and logistical support to advanced technical positions.
Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy. Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly-motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.
The Weapons Complex Integration Department has an opening in the Integrated Deterrence and Technology Competition Mission Focus Area for a Senior Scientist. The successful candidate will provide advice, insight, and technical analysis of efforts within this division. This position will require the candidate to be self-motivated with minimal supervision.
This position has a flexible work schedule including possible overtime; possible remote work and will require travel. The successful candidate will interact closely with the LLNL Senior Technical Staff and Leadership. This position will frequently work with the Department of Defense and will participate in both internal and external reviews and studies relevant to Defense and Technology. The successful candidate will increase communication and impact throughout the facility,
Essential Duties - Generate ideas and concept relevant for defense of the United States and the deterrence of its adversaries
- Provide technical analysis and critiques of new and existing concepts.
- Develop, review, analyze new strategies, methods, techniques, and technologies for defense
- Participate in the development of LLNL strategic and implementation plans for its weapons R&D
- Reading and analysis of technical reports and concepts
- Work alongside scientists, engineers, intelligence analysists and political scientists
- Communicate and coordinate across subject matter experts to advise on strategic direction and
assist with stakeholder engagement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities- PhD in Science or Technology
- Significant R&D experience both as researcher and as a manager
- Significant knowledge of DoD R&D as well as strategy development
- Experience working with intelligence agencies
- Knowledge of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Experience with multiple parts of the DoD
- Experience with multiple DOE/NNSA Labs
- Experience collaborating with academia and the industry
- Significant scientific publication record
- Experience working with nuclear weapons and special space technology
- Experience working in military special Operations technology
- Experience working in biodefense
- Experience working with Defense Science Board.
Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

post offer, pre-employment drug test.
Anticipated Clearance Level: Q (position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will besubject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access toclassified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drugtesting. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
