Job Description:

At Curtis Instruments, we are looking for a Senior or Staff level Systems Engineer to lead system design of new motor controllers and help guide lower level staff. You will maintain and improve ALM (applications lifecycle management) tools and workflows critical to regulatory and safety requirements and project development. You will work in consultation with project leaders and subject matter experts to develop requirements, determine system architecture, develop test cases, complete system level verification, and provide a clear view of the progress of these for multiple projects.

On the job, you will:
--- Analyze customer and product management feature requests for motor controllers and vehicle managers to determine feasibility, scope of effort, and develop system requirements to implement.
--- Develop requirements with internal and external stakeholders, tracing their implementation throughout product development and integration.
--- Analyze and document compliance with market and regulatory requirements. Prepare reports or information as needed to support customers and regulatory agencies.
--- Guide the design engineers and group leads in implementing the specified features. Review refining electrical, software, and mechanical requirements to ensure they meet the system requirements they refine. Work with the engineers to modify these features or issues as problems and new solutions are found.
--- Support system FMEA process & develop DFMEA for recording potential failure modes and planned corrective actions.
--- Develop and perform system verification and validation testing.
--- Apply solid technical understanding, critical reasoning and a structured approach to solving problems in both familiar and unfamiliar domains.
--- Lead and participate in root cause analysis and corrective action plans as required.
--- Make significant improvements to or develop new systems engineering processes to improve how systems engineering is done within the division.

Qualities you bring to the table include:
--- An understanding of software and the software development lifecycle.
--- Knowledge of and interest in electrical circuits, software algorithms, and control theory.
--- Understanding of mechanical design.
--- Experience designing complex system requirements, ideally as it relates to motor/vehicle control, timing techniques, control algorithm design, simulation.
--- Awareness of good engineering practice and methodologies.
--- The ability to turn written communication and designs into quality group presentations.
--- Project & Time Management: Manage multiple priorities while maintaining a commitment to the tasks at hand.
--- Problem Solving: Able to identify problems, analyze varying courses of action to determine, recommend and negotiate optimal solutions and execute contingency plans
--- Complex Analysis/Synthesis: Able to process a large amount of information flow, identify multiple parameters, interdependencies and inconsistencies to provide both high level systems overview and deep subject matter expertise in electrical, software and mechanical sub-systems.
--- Familiar with development process workflows with ALM tools
--- Ability to serve as the lead systems engineer on multiple simultaneous projects

Bonus points for:
--- Experience with OHV (off highway vehicles), like material handling, construction, agricultural, or turf care.
--- Experience working in regulatory or functional safety compliance for products
--- Experience with power electronics design challenges
