Job Description We have an opening for a Project Manager for our dynamic experimental biological research program, an exciting fusion of predictive computational modeling, machine learning, and experimental biology dedicated to discovering vital medical countermeasures. In this role, you'll be an integral part of our research team, optimizing processes for accelerated antibody production and characterization. Additionally, you'll provide essential support to our management team by overseeing the planning, execution, and tracking of this complex research effort and contributing to product lifecycle oversight, including antibody discovery, small-batch production, and characterization. Your responsibilities will encompass creating and managing project management plans, budgets, project authorization requests, project change control actions, monthly status reports, and documentation. Join us in this innovative journey to reshape biological research. This position is in the Biosciences and Biotechnology Division within the Physical and Life Sciences Directorate. This position will be filled at either the TSS.3 or TSS.4 level depending on qualifications. - - Additional job duties will be assigned at the higher level. You will: Manage high-throughput antibody production lifecycle by integrating resources, experimental plans, antibody production campaigns, collaborations, process improvements, maintenance cycles, and biosafety management into a comprehensive, multi-year project management plan. Coordinate with technical staff, management team, and a senior Program Manager to develop detailed project plans, including cost, schedule, and risk plans to field and execute the project(s) Update and track hundreds of interdependent tasks as part of a dynamic set of short- and long-term experimental efforts; monitor critical path items and report project risks/slack to management. Evaluate project risks and develop mitigation strategies; support analysis of "what-if" scenarios for adjustments to project plans/priorities/scope Develop and implement performance metrics for high-throughput antibody production cycles/campaigns. - Lead production cycle reviews and feedback processes (including interfacing with multi-disciplinary team of computational scientists, engineers, and biologists). Regularly communicate project status to project and technical team, resolve issues and recommend addition, expansion, or discontinuance of project tasks/scope to ensure successful completion of the project. Perform other duties as assigned. Additional job responsibilities at the TSS.4 Level Develop complex monthly planned vs. actual financial reports to monitor, report, and provide guidance on status and risk to management. Support and ensure compliance with all DOE Orders recognized by the LLNS contract, and LLNL and PMO policies, standards, and procedures, including Employee Safety and Health (ES&H) requirements, on all assigned projects. Support development of short-term and long-term strategic goals for the Project Mentor task leads and facilitate development of major cross-functional project plans. Provide expert analytical tasks, including multiyear budget forecasting and master project scheduling. Qualifications Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship. BS Degree in Biology, or related field, or equivalent combination of related education and experience in a technical or engineering field. Advanced knowledge of project execution in biological research and/or production laboratories. Significant experience in various aspects of project management, including project planning, scheduling, cost estimating, and baseline control. Significant experience conducting technical reviews, preparing, and maintaining large budgets, and utilizing analytical, process flow, problem solving, customer relationship, organization, and conflict resolution skills. Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities are necessary to independently recommend and approve actions and implement innovative solutions to complex problems. Strong computer skills using related project management software for word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics. Experience working in a team environment among multi-discipline personnel. Advanced verbal and written communication skills are necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain project plans and designs to management and customers and to provide advice to management. Additional qualifications at the TSS.4 level MS Degree in Biology, or related field, or equivalent combination of related education and experience in a technical or engineering field. Expert work experience in the life sciences or related field Highly Advanced understanding of antibody optimization processes and technologies, workflows including current and future applications and downstream characterization. Advanced knowledge and strong interest in health research and drug discovery Subject matter expert knowledge of project management principles, practices, methodologies, and tools as required for the project management of facility development projects. Expert verbal and written communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills necessary to effectively present, explain and advise senior management and sponsor and experience as a spokesperson for a project. Substantial experience mentoring peers and leading teams. Qualifications We Desire Project Management Institute (PMI) Certification or Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Certification. In-depth understanding of antibody discovery, production, and characterization processes/workflows Experience working with ES&H Teams, Safeguards & Security, Procurements & Materials and other LLNL resources.
