Pay Range
$104,220.00 - $129,384.00 Annually for the 337.1 level
$126,120.00 - $156,576.00 Annually for the 339.2 level
Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.
Job Description
We're looking for an Engineering Technical Associate to support programmatic work within the Plasma Engineering Operations Group (PEOG).You will provide programmatic support and technical oversight for projects within Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI), Physical and Life Sciences (PLS), and/or other projects within the PEOG which specializes in pulsed power and fusion projects. You will provide advanced technical expertise to professional and technical personnel in research and development environments to test, troubleshoot, repair, and evaluate electrical equipment and systems throughout the Livermore site and other off-site locations. Overtime and occasional travel will be required. This position is in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the Engineering Directorate.
This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.
In this role you will

  • Collaborate on the definition of functional requirements, solve complex to highly complex technical and resource problems and evaluate alternative design concepts consistent with schedule, cost, and material limitations.
  • Develop, prepare, present and participate in required design reviews, reports, procedures and other communications in support of technical and administrative assignments.
  • Provide innovative electronics expertise to analyze, troubleshoot, repair, and evaluate electrical and electronic equipment for safety and compliance per the various national consensus standards.
  • Interact regularly with laboratory staff, including high-level technical support personnel, professionals, and contacts throughout the Laboratory to ensure work is conducted safely, and to ensure that programmatic goals are met.
  • Evaluate and make decisions, independently under general supervision to establish or modify guidelines, techniques, and procedures to choose appropriate work methods and when necessary, to set work priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Additional job responsibilities, at the 339.2 level
    • Provide highly advanced technical expertise in the areas of applied engineering technology including planning, design, fabrication, project support, testing and evaluation where the qualitative and quantitative complexity of the project assignment demands original highly complex and innovative solutions.
    • Operate highly complex Research & Development (R&D) pulsed power device prototypes. Qualifications
      • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
      • Bachelor's degree in an Electronics Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience with extensive related experience.
      • Significant experience working with, and extensive knowledge of, the proper ES&H procedures for high-voltage pulsed power work environments and/or other hazardous environments.
      • Experience directing technical support work through the effective utilization of people and available resources and working on teams.
      • Experience in project leadership, including work planning, scheduling, cost estimating, budgets, drawing requirements or reporting, preferably in electrical engineering projects.
      • Experience in formal design reviews and technical presentations using MS Office tools.
      • Advanced verbal, written, feedback, and presentation communication skills within related specific technical areas.
      • Advanced skills and understanding of CAD software package (SolidWorks or CREO) to produce 3D models and generate 2D detail drawings for fabrication.
      • Ability to collaborate and interact effectively with people at all levels.
      • Ability to occasionally travel to other sites when needed. Additional qualifications at the 339.2 level
        • Extensive experience making independent fundamental decisions, defining project approaches and implementing original solutions to technical problems with minimal direction.
        • Proven ability to meet project requirements and deadlines involving highly complex technical aspects.
        • Extensive experience in projecting complete design cycle function time for multi-disciplined projects. Qualifications We Desire
          • Familiarity with LLNL work control processes.
          • Knowledge of electrical systems, high voltage, high current systems, pulsed power systems, vacuum systems. Additional Information
